A family visit visa extension is requested electronically by the eligible Saudi citizen or resident host through Absher while the visitor is inside Saudi Arabia. The visitor is not converted into a resident or employee by extending a visit visa.
- Check the visitor’s permitted stay, not only the visa’s last date for entry.
- Apply only in the official window and meet the passport, insurance and payment conditions shown by Absher.
- Both single-entry and multiple-entry visit visas may be eligible, but the live service decides whether the individual record can proceed.
Understand the two roles
The visitor is the person admitted on the family visit visa. The beneficiary submitting the extension is normally the Saudi citizen or resident whose Absher record contains that visitor. A resident host remains responsible for using the correct family-member service; an employer should use employee services only where Absher displays an eligible employee-related visit record.
A visit visa has details governing entry and details governing the permitted stay after arrival. These are not interchangeable. Read the visitor’s current record in Absher and any official visa query, and use the stay expiry relevant to the extension service. Do not assume that a long visa-validity period authorises the visitor to remain for that entire period.
Check the official conditions
Absher’s current service card says the visitor must be inside Saudi Arabia, their passport must be valid, and health-insurance cover must include the requested extension period. The applicant and visitor must be alive, and the visitor must have no unpaid traffic violations. The applicable government payment must also be made.
The service becomes available when seven days or less remain on the permitted stay, or when no more than three days have passed after expiry, including the expiry date. Do not wait until the end of this window. The page reviewed on 6 September 2026 lists a service charge, but fees and the amount calculated for a particular case can change; use the amount displayed by the official service or government-payment channel at submission.
Practical steps
- Before the window opens, check that the visitor’s passport will remain valid and arrange Saudi-compliant medical insurance covering the intended extension. The Council of Health Insurance enquiry accepts a passport, border or visa number, among other valid document numbers.
- Pay the government invoice using an authorised Saudi banking channel if Absher instructs you to do so. Keep the payment reference, but remember that payment alone does not extend the visa.
- Sign in to the host’s official Absher account or app. Use Family Members Services, then Services, then Extension of Visit Visa. If the live record is legitimately under Employee Services, follow the label Absher shows.
- Select the correct visitor, check the passport and visa information, enter the required details and review the dates carefully.
- Submit and save the confirmation. Return to the visa record to confirm that the new permitted-stay date is visible before relying on the extension.
Do not make an unsupported border trip to try to reset a stay. Leaving Saudi Arabia may end a single-entry permission, and re-entry always depends on the visitor holding valid permission and meeting carrier and border checks.
When to get help
Use official Absher support promptly if an eligible record is missing, insurance or payment is not recognised, or the service returns an error near the deadline. Contact Jawazat through an official channel for an individual immigration-status problem. If the visitor is outside Saudi Arabia, this is not the correct service.
