Fahas is the Saudi periodic vehicle inspection, also called MVPI. Check validity through the official Vehicle Safety inspection-status service, your inspection report or sticker, and compare the result with your vehicle record in Absher. If a passed inspection is missing, check the vehicle and chassis data before asking the correct authority to amend it.
What Fahas means
Fahas is the common name for Saudi Arabia's periodic technical vehicle inspection. The inspection checks the vehicle and its identifying data against required safety standards. It is separate from the Istimara, which is the vehicle registration certificate, although both records may be relevant to vehicle transactions.
The official MVPI guidance says an inspection is valid for one year. For a new private vehicle, periodic inspection begins three years after the first vehicle licence is obtained and is annual after that. Taxis, buses and public transport vehicles follow a different first-inspection schedule. A vehicle can also be inspected earlier when the owner wants a safety check, when it is bought or sold, after relevant repairs or modifications, or when a technical problem is suspected.
Use the official inspection-status check
- Open the official Vehicle Safety Inspection Status Verification service linked from the MVPI FAQ.
- Enter the vehicle or inspection details requested by the live form. Copy them from the Istimara or inspection report rather than typing from memory.
- Complete the verification step and submit.
- Compare the displayed vehicle identity, inspection result and validity information with your own records.
You can also use the validity shown on the official inspection report or sticker. Keep the report after a test, especially until the result is visible in connected government services.
Check the vehicle in Absher
Sign in to the official Absher Individuals platform and open the area for your vehicles or vehicle management. Select the correct vehicle and review its inspection information. Absher menus can change, so use the service search or live labels if the wording differs.
Do not confuse the inspection date with the Istimara expiry date. They refer to different requirements. If you own several vehicles, compare the plate and chassis details before acting on a date.
If a passed inspection is missing
MVPI says inspection data are transferred automatically to Absher, but the record may fail to appear when vehicle data do not match or there is a technical communication problem. Compare the chassis number, plate and other identity details on:
- the physical vehicle;
- the Istimara or official Traffic printout;
- the MVPI inspection report; and
- the record shown in Absher.
If the registration record is wrong, contact the General Traffic Department to correct it. If the inspection report is wrong, take the report to MVPI customer service and ask for the Absher-related data to be corrected. Keep evidence of the passed inspection and any correction request.
When an inspection is due
The MVPI FAQ advises annual inspection before the current certificate expires, allowing enough time to deal with technical faults. An advance appointment is compulsory. Book through the official Vehicle Safety platform or its official app rather than turning up without a slot.
For the appointment, official guidance lists the confirmation, the vehicle owner's ID or eligible representative's ID, and the vehicle registration, Traffic printout or accepted digital licence. Imported vehicles may need the original customs card. A person attending for the owner must meet the authorisation rules shown by the service.
This guide does not quote inspection or re-inspection charges. Vehicle category and current official pricing affect the amount, so review the live fee before confirming.
Do not rely on a blank field
A blank inspection field is not proof that no inspection is required, nor proof that a new vehicle is automatically exempt. First check the date of the first vehicle licence and the vehicle category. Then use the Vehicle Safety checker or ask MVPI if the status remains unclear.
MVPI itself does not impose a late-submission fine, but its FAQ says failure to renew an annual inspection certificate is treated as a Traffic Department violation. Check any enforcement record directly in Absher rather than relying on an old fixed fine quoted by a third-party site.
When to get help
Contact MVPI for booking, report, inspection or transfer-of-result questions. Contact the General Traffic Department when the Istimara or vehicle identity record is wrong, and Absher support for a platform error after the source data have been checked.
