Guide summary: A driving-licence application can involve different charges, including a government charge, a driving-school or training charge and, in some cases, delivery. Do not combine them into one assumed total. Read the service and applicant details on each live invoice, pay through the official channel offered, and use the amount and deadline displayed at the time rather than an old online fee list.
Identify what you are paying
First separate the transaction from the wider licensing process. An invoice or payment screen should say whether it relates to issuing a licence, renewing one, training or another service. Selecting the wrong transaction can leave the required charge unpaid even if money has left your account.
This payment guide does not repeat the application route. See our general Saudi driving-licence guide for the distinction between first issue and foreign-licence exchange. For renewal, the National Platform’s official service page says applicants must pay the renewal fees and complete a medical examination before using the Absher renewal service.
Understand the references on the invoice
- Service or transaction: check that it matches the action you intend to complete, such as issue or renewal.
- Beneficiary: verify the identity or Iqama details before approving payment. Do not pay against another person’s record by mistake.
- Licence type and period: confirm that any choices shown match the application available to you.
- Amount and due date: treat the current official invoice as controlling. Charges and payment windows can change.
- Reference, bill or receipt number: retain it so the bank, school or authority can trace the transaction.
Training charges are not the same as government licence charges. A driving school may assess the required programme and issue its own payment request. Delivery can also appear separately during an online service. Do not assume that paying one item settles every other item.
Practical payment steps
- Open the relevant service in Absher, the National Platform link to Absher, or your registered driving school. Avoid payment links received from unknown senders.
- Record the exact service name, beneficiary identifier, amount, reference and deadline shown.
- If the service directs you to a government payment, use your Saudi bank’s authenticated website or app and find its current government-payments or SADAD area. The Ministry of Finance identifies SADAD as the system used to collect government fees through banking channels.
- Select the Ministry of Interior driving-licence biller or service only if that is what the live application requires. Bank wording and menu paths differ, so follow the labels in your own bank rather than an old screenshot.
- Before confirming, compare the service, applicant, licence details and amount with the official request. Cancel and investigate any mismatch.
- Save the bank confirmation and official reference. Return to the initiating service and check whether the requirement now shows as paid or lets you continue.
Limits and common mistakes
This guide does not quote a fixed fee because the correct amount depends on the live service and may be revised. It also cannot confirm that every bank uses the same menu names. A debit alone does not prove that the correct government record or school account was credited.
- Do not choose “issue” when you mean “renew”, or the reverse.
- Do not describe a government-payment balance as money held “on the Iqama”; the Iqama is an identifier, not an account.
- Do not reuse another person’s bill number or beneficiary details.
- Do not make a second payment immediately if the first has not yet appeared. Check the transaction status and trace it first.
- Do not rely on a search result that embeds a price or an app walkthrough without checking the current official screen.
If payment is not recognised
Compare the receipt with the application line by line. Check whether the transaction is completed, pending, reversed or refunded in your bank. Then check the official service again. Keep screenshots that show the non-sensitive transaction status and the reference number, but do not publish full identity, card or account details.
When to get help
Contact your bank first if the payment failed, duplicated, reversed or debited without a usable confirmation. Contact the driving school for its own invoice, training assessment or student-account allocation. Use Absher or Traffic support when a confirmed government payment is attached to the wrong service or is not recognised. Give support the transaction reference through its secure authenticated channel; never send card details, passwords, one-time codes or copies of identity documents by ordinary email.
