How to extend a dependant’s exit/re-entry visa

Guide summary: Absher’s extension service is for a sponsored family member who is outside Saudi Arabia. A dependant who is still inside the Kingdom is in a different position: check the existing visa and use the current issue or cancellation options shown in the sponsor’s Absher account rather than treating an outside-Kingdom extension as the answer. In every case, the live Absher record and eligibility result control. Check the dependant’s passport, Iqama and visa details before paying any government charge.

First establish where the dependant is

  • Outside Saudi Arabia: the sponsor may use the official Extend Exit/Re-Entry Visa for Sponsorees outside Kingdom, if it appears and the case passes the current checks.
  • Inside Saudi Arabia: do not use that extension route. The sponsor should check the visa status and the current visa services available for the family member. Depending on the live record and travel plan, the appropriate action may be to retain the visa, cancel it if Absher permits, or issue a new visa through the official family-member visa service. Do not cancel or pay until the account shows the consequence and eligibility.

Do not confuse an exit/re-entry visa for a resident dependant with a visit visa. They are different permissions, with different holders and different Absher services.

Check the live record before doing anything

  1. Sign in to the sponsor’s official Absher Individuals account.
  2. Open the family-member or sponsored-dependant area and identify the person by Iqama details, not merely by name.
  3. Use the official exit/re-entry visa status inquiry to confirm the visa number, type, expiry or return date and present status.
  4. Check the dependant’s passport validity and Iqama expiry. Compare every digit with the official records.
  5. Only then open the visa service relevant to the person’s actual location.

The GOV.SA Muqeem: official visa validity service page points users to the Absher inquiry. Save the resulting details and check them again after any successful transaction.

Eligibility when the dependant is outside Saudi Arabia

Absher currently describes the service as an online extension for family members or domestic workers outside the Kingdom. Its published terms require payment of the extension charge; the person must be outside Saudi Arabia; and the employer, worker or family member must not carry a listed status such as deceased, absconding or a recruitment-regulation violation. The return date must be no later than seven days before the Iqama expires. Where extension is requested by a specified number of days, the Iqama must be valid for at least 90 days including the requested extension period.

These conditions and the fee display can change. Treat the current Absher service screen as the decisive eligibility check. Do not rely on old fixed monthly amounts, screenshots or a bank-payment tutorial. Absher labels the service cost as variable and routes payment through the government payment system of Saudi banks.

Practical Absher route for an outside dependant

  1. Sign in using the sponsor’s own digital identity.
  2. Open Family Member Services, then the visa services for the dependant. Labels may vary between the website and app.
  3. Select the outside-Kingdom exit/re-entry extension only if it is offered for that person.
  4. Review the existing visa, proposed period, return date, Iqama validity and charge shown.
  5. Confirm only when all data is correct. Save the transaction reference.
  6. Return to the official status inquiry and verify that the new details have been recorded before arranging travel.

Limits of this guide

Seeing the menu does not guarantee approval, and a payment does not by itself prove that the visa was extended. Airline boarding and Saudi entry also depend on the traveller’s current documents and official border record. This guide cannot determine eligibility where Absher displays a restriction or inconsistent dates.

When to get help

Use Absher support or the General Directorate of Passports channel shown in the authenticated service if the dependant is incorrectly recorded as inside or outside Saudi Arabia, the service is absent, payment is not matched, dates conflict, or an error remains after checking the documents. Seek case-specific official help before the intended return date; do not ask an intermediary to use the sponsor’s credentials or one-time code.
