Opening an SNB bank account in Saudi Arabia: expat checklist

Guide summary: Saudi National Bank (SNB) currently directs personal customers to open a current account through the official SNB app. Before starting, SNB says applicants must be at least 18, registered with Absher and the National Address, and hold a valid national or resident ID with more than 30 days remaining. This is an SNB-specific checklist, not a comparison of Saudi banks or a general account-opening guide.

Last checked: 6 September 2026.

Use SNB’s current official channel

SNB is the current bank name; older references to NCB or AlAhli may describe the same banking lineage but should not be used to find an application form. SNB’s official current-account page now says to open the account with the SNB app. Start from that page or from an app-store link reached through SNB’s own website. Do not follow an old seven-page NCB web form, a search advert or a link sent by an unknown person.

The app route is the bank’s starting point, not a promise of approval. SNB may need to verify identity, address and regulatory information, and it may direct an applicant to another authorised channel when digital checks cannot be completed.

SNB eligibility checklist

Check the four conditions SNB publishes before you begin:

  • Age: you must be 18 or over.
  • Identity: hold a valid Saudi national ID or resident ID. SNB’s page specifies more than 30 days of validity.
  • Absher: be registered on the official Absher platform.
  • National Address: be registered with Saudi Post | SPL’s National Address service.

For a newly arrived British employee, this usually means waiting until the relevant resident identity and Saudi digital records are ready. Do not enter a border number, visa number or another person’s Iqama where the app asks for your resident ID unless SNB itself offers that option.

Prepare accurate information

  • Your Iqama and passport, with matching names, nationality and dates.
  • Your National Address as it appears in the official record, including the short address or building details if requested.
  • A mobile number and email address that you control.
  • Your employer, occupation, income source and expected account use.
  • Your UK, Saudi or other tax-residency and tax-identification information if the application asks for it.
  • Your home-country address and any supporting information requested in the live app.

Answer compliance questions truthfully. Do not select a convenient occupation, income band or purpose simply to move past a screen. If your Iqama, employer record or National Address is wrong, correct the underlying record rather than repeatedly submitting different answers.

Complete the application safely

  1. Open SNB’s official current-account page and follow its route to the SNB app.
  2. Choose the personal current-account opening option shown in the current app.
  3. Enter the identity, contact, address and financial information requested.
  4. Complete the official identity-verification steps presented to you. Read the name of the service before approving any request.
  5. Review all declarations, terms and product information before submission.
  6. Record the application reference and retain SNB’s confirmation. Treat an IBAN as active only when SNB confirms that the account has been opened.
  7. Follow SNB’s current instructions for digital banking access and any debit-card issue, delivery or collection step. Kiosk options can vary, so this guide does not reproduce a fixed card-printing sequence.

Never share an app password, one-time code or identity-approval request with a caller or helper. A genuine-looking logo does not make a link official.

Checks after opening

  • Confirm that your English and Arabic names and contact details are correct.
  • Give your employer the bank evidence it actually requests for payroll; do not send login screenshots.
  • Review transfer limits, card controls and notification settings inside the authorised app.
  • Keep your Iqama, National Address, mobile number and tax-residency information current with the bank.

When to get help

Contact SNB through the contact details published on its official website, or visit an SNB branch, if the app cannot match your Iqama, rejects the National Address, shows another person’s details, stalls during identity verification or does not confirm the final account status. Take original identification if a branch asks to see it. Use Absher or SPL support for an error in their respective records; SNB cannot safely correct another authority’s source data on the basis of a screenshot.
