How to Check Your Istimara Validity in Saudi Arabia

What an Istimara is

The Istimara identifies a Saudi-registered vehicle and records its registration details. Drivers often use the word for the vehicle registration certificate itself. It is different from a driving licence, which authorises a person to drive, and from Fahas, the periodic technical inspection of the vehicle.

These records can have different dates. An inspection may be valid while the registration needs attention, or the registration may be current while an inspection is due. Check each item separately rather than treating one date as proof that every vehicle requirement is complete.

Check the date in Absher

1. Go to the official Absher website or open the official app and select Individuals.
2. Sign in using your own digital identity. Do not give another person your password or one-time code.
3. Open the vehicle-services or vehicle-management area. Menu labels can change, so use the live search if you do not see the wording expected.
4. Select the correct vehicle by plate and vehicle details.
5. Read the vehicle-registration validity or expiry date shown in the official record.
6. Save a screenshot for your planning, but sign in again before a transaction if the date may have changed.

If another official Saudi digital wallet displays the Istimara, compare it with Absher. Absher is the Ministry of Interior platform used for vehicle registration services; a discrepancy should be resolved rather than choosing whichever date is more convenient.

Check the right vehicle and calendar

Households and companies may have several vehicles or authorised users. Verify the plate, make, model and identifying information before relying on a date. If the certificate or screen uses a Hijri date, use the date presented by the official service and take care when adding reminders in a Gregorian calendar. A third-party date converter is not a replacement for the official expiry record.

The physical card may not show every live update in the same way as the digital record. Where the physical document and Absher disagree, contact the General Traffic Department or Absher support to establish which record needs correction.

If you cannot see the vehicle

• Confirm that you signed in to the account of the registered owner or an account with the appropriate vehicle authorisation.
• Check whether an ownership transfer, user authorisation or registration transaction is still pending.
• Compare the plate and identity details on the physical document with any Traffic printout or transaction receipt.
• Use Absher support for a technical display problem; use the General Traffic Department for an ownership or registration-data problem.

Do not attempt a renewal or transfer through an unrelated vehicle in order to work around a missing record.

Before renewal

Absher provides an electronic vehicle-registration renewal service. Open that service and read the current prerequisites applying to your vehicle. They may include valid motor insurance, any required periodic inspection, payment through authorised channels, and resolution of items shown by the system.

This guide does not state a universal registration term, late fine or renewal fee. Those claims are easily copied out of date and may not describe every vehicle or current rule. The expiry date, amount and requirements displayed in your official transaction are the figures to use. Keep receipts and confirm that the new validity appears in the vehicle record after completion.

Keep Fahas separate

Fahas is the periodic vehicle inspection. The official MVPI service says inspection validity is one year and provides a separate online status checker. If Absher shows an inspection date and an Istimara date, record both. For a problem with the inspection result, contact MVPI; for a registration record, contact Traffic.

Practical reminders

• Set a calendar reminder well before the date shown in Absher so there is time to address insurance, inspection or data issues.
• Recheck the live record before selling, transferring or taking the vehicle outside Saudi Arabia.
• Keep access to the accepted digital vehicle document and carry the documents required by Saudi traffic rules.
• Use only official payment and service channels; avoid agents promising to remove fines or alter dates.

When to get help

Contact Absher support if the service will not load, the renewed date does not appear or payment status is unclear. Contact the General Traffic Department for incorrect ownership, plate or registration details. Contact your insurer or MVPI only for the prerequisite they control.
