How to find your vehicle sequence number in Saudi Arabia

Know which number is being requested

Vehicle administration involves several identifiers. They are not interchangeable:

Vehicle sequence number: the sequence field in the Saudi registration record, sometimes shown in Arabic as الرقم التسلسلي.
Plate number: the letters and digits displayed on the registration plates.
Chassis number or VIN: the manufacturer’s vehicle identification number, normally much longer than the local sequence field.
Owner’s ID or Iqama number: identifies the registered person, not the vehicle.

Read the field name on the form you are completing. If it asks for the chassis number, a sequence number is not a substitute; if it asks for the sequence number, copying the plate digits is not enough.

Safest lookup option: the official registration record

Start with the vehicle registration card, commonly called the Istimara. Match the registration to the car by checking the plate and chassis details, then locate the sequence-number label. Use the digits exactly as printed. An old article may tell you that every sequence number has a fixed length or that you should add zeroes at the front. This guide does not repeat that claim because the audit found no current official support for altering the recorded number.

Do not rely on a photograph sent by a seller without checking it against the official record. A photograph can be old, cropped or taken from another vehicle.

Check the digital record in Absher

Absher’s official Services Guide confirms that citizens and residents can view digital documents and that vehicle registration services are available on the platform. Because interface labels can change, use this durable approach rather than memorising a long menu path:

Go directly to Absher: official service portal or open the official Absher app.
Sign in to your own Absher Individuals account.
Open Digital Documents or the current Vehicles area shown to you.
Select the correct vehicle by comparing its plate and registration details.
Open the vehicle registration details and look for the sequence-number field.
Copy the value exactly and close the record when finished.

If you are merely authorised to drive the vehicle, the owner’s full registration document or every field may not be visible in your account. Ask the registered owner to retrieve the number through their own official record; do not ask for their Absher password or one-time code.

Request an official registration copy if needed

Use the service offered in your account if you need an official copy and meet its conditions. Follow the live instructions rather than assuming the document will be delivered, printed or updated immediately.

For a newly imported or not-yet-registered vehicle, there may not yet be a normal Saudi registration sequence number. Use the identifier specifically requested by the official registration, customs, bank or insurer workflow. Do not invent a number or reuse one from a quotation.

Use the number safely

Enter it only into the official government, bank or insurer channel you intended to use.
Verify the website domain or app publisher before entering vehicle and identity data.
Compare the plate and chassis details before confirming a payment or policy.
Keep screenshots and registration copies private; they contain useful identity and vehicle information.
For a used-car purchase, rely on the formal Absher ownership-transfer process and official checks, not possession of a sequence number as proof of ownership.

When to get help

Contact Absher support or the General Traffic Department when the physical and digital registrations disagree, the vehicle is missing from the owner’s account, the sequence field is unreadable, or a government service rejects the value copied exactly from the record. Contact the bank or insurer through its official support channel if its form expects a different field or format. Do not change the official number until the organisation requesting it explains what identifier it requires.
