The Istimara is Saudi Arabia’s vehicle registration. Eligible owners can renew it through Absher once the registration enters the renewal window shown by the service. The official guidance says the remaining validity must be less than 180 days, but the live Absher record should be your final check.
Check the vehicle before renewal
Open your vehicle record in Absher and confirm the plate, make and owner details. Then check the requirements attached to that vehicle:
- A valid periodic technical inspection where required.
- Valid motor insurance recorded against the vehicle.
- Payment of renewal and any applicable delay charges shown by the government system.
- Settlement of traffic violations where the service requires it.
- No administrative block preventing renewal.
Inspection frequency and renewal charges can depend on the vehicle and its classification. Avoid copying a fee from an old guide. Use the amount generated by the official service or government-payment invoice.
Resolve inspection and insurance mismatches
If you have recently completed an inspection or bought insurance, compare the registration data on the certificate with Absher. A mistyped plate, sequence number or owner ID can stop the systems matching. Contact the inspection operator or insurer that created the record rather than purchasing the same service again without checking.
Do not wait until travel day to investigate a mismatch. Renewal is a government record update; a receipt from an insurer or inspection centre does not by itself prove that the record has synchronised.
Pay the official amount
Use the government-payments or SADAD service offered by your Saudi bank, or the payment route shown by Absher. Bank menu wording differs, so select the vehicle-registration renewal service and verify the beneficiary identity and vehicle details before authorising payment. Keep the receipt.
If a charge is unclear, stop and compare it with the amount requested in Absher. Do not transfer money to a personal account or pay a link sent in an unsolicited message.
Renew through Absher
- Sign in through the official Absher: official service portal website or app.
- Open Vehicles or Vehicle Services, then Vehicle Management.
- Select the correct vehicle.
- Choose Renew Vehicle Registration.
- Read the current conditions and confirm that inspection, insurance, payments and violations are clear.
- Review the vehicle details and submit the renewal.
- Save the confirmation and check that the new registration status appears against the vehicle.
Labels can vary between the app and website. If the service is missing, check that you are signed into the owner’s account and that the vehicle appears under Vehicle Management.
After renewal
Check the digital vehicle record in Absher. If the existing registration card does not carry an expiry date and Absher does not request a replacement, a new card may not be necessary. Where a printed replacement is required, use the delivery option or Traffic Department appointment offered in your account. Follow the instructions and address shown at the time rather than relying on published office hours.
If Absher will not renew
- Save the exact Arabic or English error message.
- Recheck inspection, insurance and payment records using the vehicle’s identifiers.
- Confirm that no traffic or ownership restriction is shown.
- Use Absher support for a system issue or book the specific Traffic Department service offered by the portal.
A leased or bank-owned vehicle may be managed by the finance provider rather than the driver. Contact the lender and follow the vehicle record; do not use the private-owner workflow unless the vehicle is registered to you.
