How to update passport information in Absher (Naqal Maloomat)

In brief

Naqal Maloomat is the commonly used Arabic term for transferring updated passport information to a Saudi immigration record. It is needed when a resident or sponsored family member receives a new passport. The passport is renewed by the issuing country first; Absher then updates the Saudi record.

Who makes the update?

Absher’s official service is designed for sponsors or authorised users to update the passports of people they sponsor. The correct route depends on the relationship:

  • Family dependant: the sponsoring resident normally uses Family Members Services.
  • Domestic worker: the individual sponsor normally uses Employee Services.
  • Company-sponsored employee: the employer or its authorised representative normally handles the update through the business immigration channel available to it.
  • Investor or Premium Residency holder: Absher provides a route for eligible account holders and their family members; follow the labels shown in the account.

A typical employee cannot use the individual service simply to update their own passport. Do not submit a dependant under the employee route or ask an unrelated person to use their account.

Prepare before logging in

  • The old passport, if available, and the new valid passport.
  • The beneficiary’s Iqama and correct personal details.
  • Clear images of the passport identity page and any other page requested by the live service.
  • An active Absher account and access to the registered mobile number for verification.
  • Confirmation that the beneficiary meets the conditions displayed by Absher.

The official guide lists eligibility controls, including sponsor authority, passport-validity conditions, traffic violations in some cases and the beneficiary’s status. These controls can differ by account and beneficiary type. Treat the message displayed in Absher as authoritative rather than trying to work around it.

Update a family member’s passport

  1. Sign in at the official Absher: official service portal website or app.
  2. Open Family Members Services, then Services.
  3. Select Update Passport Information.
  4. Choose the correct dependant and compare their existing record with the new passport.
  5. Enter the new passport number, issue and expiry details exactly as printed. Use the issuing country shown in the passport.
  6. Upload the pages requested by the service, review every field and submit.
  7. Keep the confirmation or reference number and later verify that the new details appear correctly.

Update a sponsored worker’s passport

For an individually sponsored domestic worker, the sponsor should open Employee Services, choose Services, and select Update Passport Information. For a company employee, contact HR or the authorised government-relations team. The employer may use an organisational service rather than your personal Absher account.

If the online service refuses the request

Read and save the exact error message. Common reasons include choosing the wrong beneficiary category, inconsistent passport data, an eligibility condition not being met or an earlier update still appearing in the record. Do not repeatedly submit guessed details.

Use Absher’s support route or Tawasul only where the portal directs you to do so. Attach only the documents requested and redact unrelated information where permitted. If an in-person visit is required, book the correct Passport Department appointment through Absher and take originals plus copies.

Important distinctions

This process does not renew an Iqama, extend a visa or replace a lost passport. A visitor is not a sponsored resident, so a visit-visa passport discrepancy should be handled through the authority or visa channel responsible for that visit record. If your British passport has been lost or stolen, follow HM Passport Office and local reporting requirements before attempting the Saudi record update.
